A group of retirees living at Churchill Retirement Living’s Chantry Lodge in Andover have put on their dancing shoes and shimmied their way to better fitness in later life by taking part in their very own Zumba exercise classes.
The classes were orchestrated by Lodge Manager Dorne Orpel to give the Owners an opportunity to keep fit and have fun.
Dorne explains:
Our Owners are always keen participants in activities that keep them busy and help with fitness and I thought that dance was something everyone could get stuck into. It’s drawn quite the following so now every Wednesday morning, we have a regular group that gathers on the Roof Terrace to showcase their moves and enjoy a low impact workout.
Owner Shirley Borrett, who lives at Chantry Lodge, said:
I like to keep active and healthy and Zumba is so much fun that you forget it’s actually good for you! I have had a lot of issues with my shoulder but since starting the classes, my physio has said it has improved through the dancing, which is just fantastic!
Owners Mike and Dee Holmes added:
It’s a really fun session and a great way to get some exercise in, which is such an important thing to do as you get older. We’ve certainly been feeling the benefits already!
