A group of Owners from Churchill Retirement Living’s Amelia Lodge in Henleaze have been busy knitting treats for newborn babies at a local hospital.
The retirees have formed a weekly Knit and Natter Group at their lodge on Henleaze Terrace, where they meet in the Owners’ Lounge to chat and knit woolly supplies to donate to the Royal United Hospital (RUH) in Bath.
The group was first set up when a group of enthusiastic knitters noticed an empty space in the Owners’ Lounge timetable, and wanted to lend their support to the local hospital. So far, they have created hats with red, amber or green bobbles on to indicate how well the baby is, and are now moving on to knitting squares for refugee blankets and poppies for the annual Poppy Appeal.
Alison Speechly, Lodge Manager at Amelia Lodge, said:
The group find it so rewarding to come together and knit. They have fun spending the afternoon creating these beautiful little hats for the local neonatal ward, as well as catching up with each other over a cup of tea at the same time. It was also great to see Phillip, one of our male owners, lending his support, by making all of the little bobbles.
Owner Anne K, who lives at Amelia Lodge, said: “It’s lovely to sit and have a natter with all of my new friends, and it’s great that we can come together to do something that we all love, for such a great cause.”
