Churchill Site Manager John Pendleton wins national Pride in the Job Award

Churchill Retirement Living’s John Pendleton has been announced as a Pride in the Job 2023 Quality Award winner for his work at Bower Lodge in Shirley.

Pride in the Job is the most highly regarded competition in the housebuilding industry, providing a prestigious benchmark for exceptional site managers for the last 43 years. Out of more than 8,000 entrants across the UK, only 444 were selected as Quality winners, putting John among the best in the country.

The current competition began in July last year, with each site manager assessed across six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety. At this stage of the contest, thousands of site inspections and meticulous scoring and verifications have been undertaken.

Churchill’s Regional Managing Director Robert Monkman said: “John has always strived to achieve the highest standards in respect of workmanship and quality throughout all the developments he has been responsible for and moreover, has instilled this approach with those who have worked with him. The Pride in the Job Award is well deserved and is a fitting tribute to John and the wider team who have supported him."

Midlands Commercial Construction Director Steve Freer, a close Colleagues of John’s, added: “Having worked with John for many years, I know he has always taken pride in his work and aims for the best quality of workmanship on every aspect of his developments. It is a great moment to see his consistent high standards approach recognised by the NHBC. It is well deserved and the entire Midlands team is proud of this achievement.”

John will now go forward alongside other Quality Award winners for Seal of Excellence and Regional Awards in the autumn. The competition culminates in the national Supreme Award winners, which will be revealed in January 2024.

The Company will now look forward to supporting all our Site Managers in the 2024 competition as we are determined to build on John’s achievement with more success!
