Riverside living in London with L&Q\u2019s Shared Ownership<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After renting in Berkshire and Surrey, and commuting into London\nfor a number of years, Bindu Batta, 36, was ready to take her first step onto\nthe property ladder in the capital. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have always wanted to own my own property, but the\nhousing market in London is so competitive that I wasn\u2019t sure if I would be\nable to afford it.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve had\na few bad experiences renting, and at times it was difficult to live in a house\nshare, I just felt it was time for the next step in my life. Thankfully I found\nL&Q!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colleagues\ntold Bindu about L&Q and their Shared Ownership scheme. Upon researching,\nshe learned that purchasing through Shared Ownership could mean putting down a\nlower deposit than buying through the traditional process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was\nworried about how I would be able to afford a home on my own. Once I looked\ninto Shared Ownership, I realised that what I could buy within my budget. When\nI found Erith Baths, I knew it was the right choice.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was\nso quick, I couldn\u2019t believe it! I viewed the show home on the 3rd<\/sup>\nof January and by the 10th<\/sup> I had put down an offer. I moved in this\npast June. It was all so simple.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bindu\npurchased a 40% share of a one-bedroom apartment in Erith Baths, located on the\nsite of the former Riverside Swimming Baths in the heart of Erith town centre.\nErith is in the midst of ambitious regeneration that will include improved\ncycling and walking trails, along with a pedestrianised town centre. Now\nconveniently living between the River Thames and the town centre, Bindu has not\nmissed an opportunity to explore her new neighbourhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI love\nthe water, and my apartment is so close to the Thames. I\u2019m always going on to\nthe balcony or opening a window for the view.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m\nquite outdoorsy, I enjoy cycling and running. It\u2019s always been a dream of mine\nto run along the water and now it\u2019s so easy! I\u2019m planning on running down to\nthe Riverside Shopping Centre since it\u2019s nearby.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Less than a\nfive- minute walk from Erith Baths, Erith train station connects the riverside\nneighbourhood to central London in under an hour, making both a weekday commute\nand plans in the city convenient for Bindu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy\ncommute to and from Erith is so easy, and I\u2019m so close to the station as well.\nThe last train is at 12.55am, so I can still go out.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI can\nstill live the same lifestyle now that I own my home, as I did renting.  I still go out with my friends, I still\ntravel. Shared Ownership has been perfect for me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though purchasing a home can be seen as a stressful process,\nBindu found the experience very straightforward, and went from viewing to\nfinalising the purchase in just four weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI began this process not really knowing anything about\nShared Ownership. L&Q were unbelievably helpful. It was quite hard for me\nbeing a first-time buyer, all of my family is in India so they were not here to\nhelp me, but L&Q were truly there for me, answering all of my questions and\nsupporting me every step.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cL&Q were incredibly accessible and reassuring, they\neven put me in touch with a mortgage advisor who understood Shared Ownership.\nFrom the moment I reserved, the sales staff kept in constant contact, keeping\nme updated and letting me know how my process was coming along. I would not\nhave been able to do this without L&Q\u2019s guidance.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked\nabout how it feels going from renter to homeowner, Bindu explains;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was a\nvery emotional journey, it was so worth it. I believe that everything happens\nfor a reason. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
