Pursuing a career in mixology, Am\u00e9lie\nDiaz moved from France to London for the opportunity to work in one of the\nworld\u2019s leading cocktail scenes. Renting in a shared flat in Camden, Amelie\nenjoyed being close to London\u2019s bar life, but thought that renting was the only\nway she could afford to live in the capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Am\u00e9lie comments, \u201cWhilst I loved the\nconvenience of living in Camden, renting left me wondering where my money was\nactually going. Giving hundreds of pounds to my landlord every month felt like\na waste, but I didn\u2019t think that I had any other options. From talking to\nfriends and reading the headlines, it seemed that you couldn\u2019t buy a home in\nLondon unless you were really wealthy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When Am\u00e9lie heard about L&Q\u2019s Shared\nOwnership scheme at Weavers Quarter in Barking, she was amazed to find a\nsolution that would help her get on to the property ladder. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI was looking at the figures and\nrealised that my monthly costs wouldn\u2019t be much higher than my current rent,\nand the required deposit was within reach. I immediately called my friends and\nfamily to say I was planning to buy a home in London, and they thought I was\ncrazy!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Am\u00e9lie bought a 35% share in a top-floor,\none-bedroom apartment, with a deposit of just \u00a313,500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Am\u00e9lie continues, \u201cI was surprised to\nhave enough money for a deposit, as you only pay a deposit on the share you\npurchase, not the full market value. I thought that maybe in the future if I\nwas buying with someone, then we might be to able save for a good deposit but\nbeing able to buy a home by myself was very unexpected.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Am\u00e9lie first visited Weavers Quarter in\nSeptember 2018 and received the keys just 3 months later in time for Christmas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Am\u00e9lie adds, \u201cI visited the Weavers\nQuarter show home and immediately fell in love. Opening the door to the\napartment, I took one step in and saw my future laid out before me. I\nimmediately started to picture it with my furniture in, enjoying summer\nevenings with a BBQ on the balcony, or a soothing bath in the modern bathroom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Having completed the necessary\neligibility and financial forms, one month later Am\u00e9lie was notified that she\nhad secured her first choice of apartment at Weavers Quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI like everything about my new\napartment. When I go to work I can\u2019t wait to get back home, because I feel so\ncomfortable here. I like every element of the home, from the open-plan living\nroom to the spacious bedroom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt has been so fun to design each of the\nspaces! One of the first things I did when I arrived was get out my measuring\ntape and get the dimensions of every space. I then put Sellotape all over the\nfloor to work out how all my furniture would fit, and ensure everything would\nlook good together. I was walking around with this huge smile on my face,\nknowing that I owned everything in the flat.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Am\u00e9lie was impressed with L&Q\u2019s level\nof service, helping to navigate her through the home buying process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She mentions, \u201cThe L&Q team were\nfantastic. From an initial tour of the show home through to a detailed guide of\nmy own apartment, they kept me informed throughout the process and gave me\nheaps of advice. The welcome gifts they gave me on completion was the cherry on\nthe cake!\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Barking proved a fantastic find for\nAm\u00e9lie, giving her the London lifestyle she\u2019s always enjoyed, at an affordable\nprice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe thing I like most about Barking is\nhow you have everything on your doorstep. The transport links are amazing \u2013 the\nDistrict line, Hammersmith Line, Overground and C2C services are all a 10\nminute walk away. Plus there\u2019s great shops and supermarkets close by, and a\nhigh street with a regular market.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Am\u00e9lie finishes, \u201cI feel relaxed, safe,\nand comfortable. Shared Ownership has given me the opportunity to bring\nstability to my future, and invest my money wisely.
