Local girl Melanie Green \u2013 or Mel \u2013 is settling in well as the Lodge Manager at Churchill Retirement Living\u2019s new Hubert Lodge<\/a> development in Hythe. With the first handful of new apartment Owners already moved in and more set to join them shortly, she is looking forward to being at the heart of a thriving new community.<\/p>

\u201cI started in December,\u201d says Mel. \u201cThere\u2019s been a lot of work to do getting up to speed with things, meeting new people and completing all my training. I\u2019ve enjoyed getting to know my first few Owners, supporting them with their move and helping to keep everyone safe and well supported through the lockdown.\u201d<\/p>

Mel\u2019s previous job as long haul cabin crew with Virgin Atlantic may seem very different from running a retirement development, but she is quick to point out the similar skills that apply to her new role. \u201cIt\u2019s all about building relationships and providing great customer service,\u201d she explains. \u201cI\u2019m good at getting to know people quickly and I\u2019d say I\u2019m a people person, so that\u2019s the best part of the job for me. I\u2019m really looking forward to welcoming more new Owners, getting them settled in and building a sense of community, which is what the retirement living lifestyle is all about.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cIt\u2019s also nice not to be travelling and commuting as much anymore, since I live just around the corner from the Lodge. That means I know the area very well, so for any new Owners who aren\u2019t local I\u2019ll be able to show them around and let them know all the best places to visit, things to do and of course where to go for the essentials.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cWe have lots of measures in place to keep everyone safe during the lockdown,\u201d she adds. \u201cI\u2019m looking forward to being able to use our lovely Owners\u2019 Lounge for social events and activities as soon as it\u2019s permitted, and we have a lovely garden area outside where the Owners will be able to socialise when the weather gets warmer and hopefully restrictions will start to ease. In the meantime we just need to be sensible and stay safe, and look forward to fun times ahead.\u201d<\/p>
