Local MP Alan Whitehead has visited Churchill Retirement Living\u2019s new development in Portswood to install a special date plaque.<\/p>

Mr Whitehead visited the development on Belmont Road<\/a> to meet with Andrew Burgess, Churchill\u2019s Land and Planning Director, before enjoying an exclusive tour of the construction site.<\/p>

Following the visit, Alan Whitehead MP, said: \u201cI was impressed by the sustainability credentials of the development, in particular the use of ground source heat pump technology to provide heating and hot water for Owners. This is not only good for the environment, but also enables Owners to plan and budget more effectively, since their heating and hot water needs are taken care of.<\/p>

Retirement properties are a crucial part of helping to unblock the UK\u2019s housing crisis and Churchill\u2019s new development is a significant addition to the housing provision in Portswood. Specialist retirement housing is proven to have a very real, beneficial effect on older people\u2019s health and wellbeing, be it from being in a modern, warm, well insulated home to having a sense of community and no more loneliness. This can also help save health and care services considerable resources and contribute to easing the longer term pressure on the NHS.<\/p><\/blockquote>

Andrew Burgess added: \u201cWe were delighted that Mr Whitehead was able to join us to mark this occasion. Once complete, the new development will comprise 73 private, self-contained apartments that are specially designed for the over 60s with features such as a video-entry system, lift to all floors, a 24 hour care and support system and a Lodge Manager. Communal facilities include an Owners\u2019 Lounge with Coffee Bar, Guest Suite, Wellbeing Suite and landscaped gardens.<\/p>
