A group of ladies from Churchill Retirement Living\u2019s King\u2019s Lodge in Maidstone<\/strong><\/a> have been busy knitting remembrance poppies for a local appeal. <\/p>

The ladies have knitted special poppies to contribute towards the Kent Knitted Poppy Parade appeal, which has challenged locals to help build a carpet of knitted or crocheted poppies to commemorate Remembrance Day. Over 7,000 poppies were donated to last year\u2019s appeal, with even more expected this year.<\/p>

Several Owners at King\u2019s Lodge had already formed a weekly Knit and Knatter group where they meet in the Owners\u2019 Lounge to chat and knit woolly supplies, when they decided to take on the challenge to create poppies for the display.<\/p>

Sue Robertson, Lodge Manager at King\u2019s Lodge, said: \u201cThe ladies thoroughly enjoy getting together for their weekly Knit and Knatter group, and have found it so rewarding to be able to knit for such a lovely cause. In fact, they\u2019ve enjoyed it so much that we\u2019re now selling extra knitted poppies in the Lodge reception, with all the proceeds going to Walking with the Wounded.<\/p>

\u201cThey have put so much time and effort into this project, and we\u2019re proud that the Owners at King\u2019s Lodge have been able to contribute towards this very special reminder of the great sacrifices made by those who lost their lives during the war.\u201d<\/p>

King\u2019s Lodge comprises of 53 one and two bedroom apartments in the heart of Maidstone. The apartments boast spacious rooms throughout and are an ideal combination of design and functionality. Owners can also enjoy the added luxury of a stunning roof terrace to enjoy in the summer months. The fully fitted, stylish kitchens include a built in fridge and freezer, hob and an oven, which is located at an easy-reach height.<\/p>
